Toronto Public Health issued seven conditional passes to restaurants, cafés, bakeries, bars and grocery stores on April 13.

Avocado Sushi Japanese Cuisine at 1105 Bay Street received a conditional pass with two major infractions:

  • Fail to protect against breeding of pests

  • Use handwashing station other than for handwashing of employees

Bb.Q Chicken Lemon at 43 Elm Street received a conditional pass with three major infractions:

  • Fail to provide thermometer in refrigeration equipment

  • Use handwashing station other than for handwashing of employees

  • Mechanical equipment not maintained to provide sufficient chemical solution rinse

Chelsea Hotel Market Garden at 33 Gerrard Street West received a conditional pass with three major infractions:

  • Use food equipment not in good repair

  • Mechanical equipment not maintained to maintain rinse water at 82 C

  • Mechanical equipment not maintained to maintain wash water between 60 C and 71 C

Darna at 1613 Bayview Avenue received a conditional pass with three major infractions:

  • Fail to protect food from contamination or adulteration

  • Use utensils not suitable for intended purpose

  • Mechanical equipment not maintained to provide sufficient chemical solution rinse

G-b Hand-Pulled Noodles at 1024 Gerrard Street East received a conditional pass with 10 major infractions:

  • Fail to ensure food handler in food premise washes hands as necessary to prevent contamination of food

  • Fail to maintain handwashing stations (liquid soap and paper towels)

  • Fail to protect food from contamination or adulteration

  • Fail to provide thermometer in refrigeration equipment

  • Handwashing stations not conveniently accessible by food handlers

  • Use dirty towel for cleaning food contact surface

  • Use food equipment not of readily cleanable material

  • Use handwashing station other than for handwashing of employees

  • Fail to equip sanitary facility with single service towels or dryer

  • Mechanical equipment not maintained to provide sufficient chemical solution rinse

Jolly Bar And Restaurant at 844 Bloor Street West received a conditional pass with four major infractions:

  • Fail to protect food from contamination or adulteration

  • Fail to provide handwashing stations with adequate supplies (hot and cold water)

  • Store ice in unsanitary manner

  • Store potentially hazardous foods at internal temperature between 4 C and 60 C

Miss Fu In Chengdu at 5441 Yonge Street received a conditional pass with two major infractions:

  • Fail to ensure food handler in food premise washes hands as necessary to prevent contamination of food

  • Fail to provide thermometer in refrigeration equipment

A conditional pass is issued when at least one infraction presents a significant health risk, and a closure is ordered when at least one infraction presents an immediate health hazard. Both outcomes trigger an additional inspection within 48 hours. Failure to comply with Toronto’s DineSafe program can result in fines, court summons and other enforcement action.
